RESTAURANT REVIEW: Gyuuzen Japanese Restaurant

KONICHIWA!!!

I usually do reviews on beauty and skincare, but today I'll be reviewing a restaurant that I visited last night. We went to Causeway Bay for the Marathon Sports Outlet Sale, and seeing that we were in the area, we went to try out this restaurant...

牛禪燒肉日本料理 Gyuuzen Japanese Restaurant

This is the sister restaurant of Soi 18 Thai Cuisine (I did a review of it in July). Their official opening was on 13 August 2014, so it's a pretty new restaurant still, but their current ranking on Open Rice is one of the Top 10 Restaurants in Hong Kong!

This restaurant is located in the heart of Causeway Bay, on the 13th floor of the World Trade Centre. I didn't get to take any photos of the restaurant, but the lighting is much brighter than the Soi 18, and it feels more spacious too! It feels like that Gyuuzen is more suitable for family dinners, whereas Soi 18 is more for gatherings!

For three people, we ordered:

Special Drink: Coconut Milk & Pineapple Juice
It looks really pretty, and it has an unique taste! This is quite a popular drink, but I'm not such a fan of pineapple juice - I'd much rather have coconut milk by itself.

Dinner Set B for Two Persons

In the bowl: octopus (I didn't try this because it looks like it's raw octopus)
On the plate: dang shen and garlic, both are quite nice - the garlic is quite crunchy, and it tastes like it has been soaked in mushroom juice

This is a photo of the Tomato Salad that came with the Dinner Set, along with the three sauces for my Japanese grill!

FOIE GRAS - one of my favourite foods!!! I haven't been able to have any of this throughout my entire pregnancy, so this was definitely 5 stars for me!!

For the grill: prawns, chicken wings, scallops, mushroom, beef, zucchini
There's only enough for each person to have one piece of each item, but since we ordered other foods as well, it was enough for us already! We also ordered another plate of chicken for the grill which was really tender, but I was too busy eating so I forgot to take a photo of the chicken!

Miso Soup - not too salty, so it's pretty good!

Sea Urchin Fried Rice - I'm not a sea urchin fan (sea urchin is a type of food where it's either really yummy or really disgusting, and for me, it's really disgusting), so this wasn't great for me, but hubby and his friend liked it!

Other than the Dinner Set that we ordered, we also ordered these dishes...

Seafood Pot with lots of crab legs, fish, prawns, mushroom, and vegetables

Salmon Sushi & California Roll (the avocado was too raw so it tasted a little weird)

Of course we had to have dessert too! They have four flavours of ice cream available: Chocolate, Vanilla, Grapefruit, and Sweet Purple Potato
We were surprised to see that they didn't have the popular Matcha Green Tea ice cream, but we did order both the grapefruit and the sweet purple potato ice creams, since they are not something we can try everyday! The grapefruit ice cream had a strong grapefruit taste, but it tasted more like a sherbet rather than an ice cream, and as for the sweet purple potato ice cream, it tasted quite sweet with a nice taste, but probably not really like the sweet potato we normally have (I'm not used to calling the kumara a sweet potato haha).

We paid around HKD360 per person for this meal, which is really reasonable, considering the location, the atmosphere, and the variety of food we ordered!! My mum told me that Japanese grills usually cost around HKD500 per person, so HKD300+ is really cheap, and we did order quite a lot of food (and it's normal that each person only gets a piece of everything for the set dinner)!!! Overall, a pleasant dining experience!!!

The bonus? One of the owners of this restaurant is my sister-in-law, Grace Cheung, the winner of Miss Asia 2007 (do you remember her? I've posted photos of her before on my blog)!! She's at the restaurant on most nights now, so in addition to the nice food, you can also dine with a Miss Asia!!!
