I received a package yesterday from Oh Sheet Mask. An Instagram friend, Tahira, introduced me to the subscription service, because she instantly thought of me when she saw their Instagram Page. I hesitated at first whether to purchase the box or not, because the price is a bit hefty for 10 sheet masks - sheet masks are everywhere in Hong Kong, and they're selling for as cheap as US$0.13 per piece (and they're not bad either), so this box better be filled with some quality stuff!!
Oh Sheet Mask is a Masks Subscription Box, where they send you a handmade box filled with 10 sheet masks each month. They have a one-off service as well as a monthly service, and they are currently charging US$23 per box. They also have a Bag version, where they contain 5 sheet masks inside, and cost US$11. I only just realised yesterday after I received my package that Oh Sheet Mask is from Thailand (the return address is a Thailand address).
From their website (in italics):
Our 'Oh Sheet Gift Box' contains 10 gorgeous masks, enough to last you a whole month (and the perfect present), while our 'Bag of Sheet' contains 5 incredible masks, ideal for that occasional facial fix.
We're not gonna send you the usual well known generic brands that you can pick up cheaply in your home country or find in beauty sample boxes, just the newest, most innovative & high quality masks that are causing waves in Korea and beyond. From Bee Venom, Snail & Sheep Placenta to Cucumber, Collagen & Pearl, from Charm to Mingkou, your monthly goody box is bursting with blissfully comfortable, unique, facial heaven.
Every box and every bag is handmade by us, every sheet mask is personally chosen, tried, tested and loved by us, and every month we'll bring you beautiful skin, even if you do look a bit like a movie serial killer. (While the mask is on).
I actually did an unboxing video, but for some reason, YouTube wouldn't let me upload it - I tried uploading it 5 times, but failed, so here I am doing a blog post on it.

So I received a brown envelope package yesterday, and when I opened it up, I saw a beautiful looking handmade mint green box with lilac ribbons on it. Although it was bubble wrapped, there were still some dents in my box.
Inside the box:
There were 10 sheet masks inside the box, and I also received a free sample of a facial cleanser. There was also a product information card with the ingredients of the masks written on it. The only downside was that there were no pictures on the card, so it took a while for me to match each mask with its description.
1) Han Jia Hanbok Anti-Wrinkle Mushroom Mask
The packaging of this mask is cute, but what surprised me is the Simplified Chinese writing all over it. Everything on the back of the mask is in Chinese, including the description, instructions of use, and ingredients. What surprised me the most is to see that although the brand name is Korean, the mask is actually manufactured in CHINA!!!
First disappointment of the box.
2) YanChunTang - Skirts Gone Little Green Dress Firming Whitening Radiance Mask
Second disappointment of the box.
This mask is Made in China too, and it's not even owned by a Korean company!
3) East Skin - Blueberry Fruit Obsession Moisturising Mask
This mask says that it is "Formulated in Korea", but unfortunately, it is another Made in China mask. Continuous disappointment.
4) Ruth Years - Snail & Saffron Anti-Wrinkle Mask
I don't know what to say except that this is Made in China.
5) East Skin - Natural Lemon Nourishing Mask
This looks exactly like the masks from FoodHolic, and at first, I really thought they were from FoodHolic, but unfortunately I was wrong. On the back of the packaging, there's Thai written over it, and unfortunately, another Made in China product.
6) Charm - Gold Snail Essence Tender Moisturising Mask
Made in China again.
7) Wobechon - It's Real Jelly Honey Mask
This looks exactly like the masks from Innisfree, and even the series name is the same "It's Real", but if you see again, it's actually a different brand, and no surprise again, it's Made in China again!
8) Pibamy - Snail Extract Multi-Nutrient Mask
And again, it's Made in China.
9) Liceko - Hydrating Emergency Facial Paste Mask
Made in China.
10) Wobechon - No.1 Snail Power Mask
Made in China.
11) Cathy Doll Aura Whitening Serum & Foam Cleanser
This came free with the box, and surprisingly, this is the ONLY item inside the box which is MADE IN KOREA!!!
Should I say that this box was a complete disappointment to me?! I wasn't expecting to receive 10 x MADE IN CHINA MASKS with such a high price tag to it!!! This was such a huge rip-off!!! I guess they weren't expecting their customers to be able to read Chinese, but I'm glad I could read it!! For the price of US$23, I was expecting higher quality masks from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan...but not China!!
And I quote from their website once again:
We're not gonna send you the usual well known generic brands that you can pick up cheaply in your home country or find in beauty sample boxes, just the newest, most innovative & high quality masks that are causing waves in Korea and beyond.
Yes, their brands are not the usual well known generic brands that we can pick up in our home country...because their brands are from China, and they are just dupes of what's already available in Korea. I must point out that even the people in China come to Hong Kong to shop for overseas brands (including Korea and Japan), and refuse to use their local brands or anything manufactured in their own country, because they know that their country is producing many fakes, and too many fakes.
I love skincare products and sheet masks - I use masks made from various countries, but sorry, China is not one of them. I have tried facial products from China before, and they smelled fine at first, but after I left them for about a year, they smelled so bad (see how perfume can cover the smell of the actual product?), but I have used body products which are made in China and they're fine, but I probably wouldn't use any of them for my face. I mean, if eggs (yes, eggs that look like eggs and taste like eggs, but if you hard-boil it, the yolk becomes a bouncy ball) can be fake, using corpse oil (yes, the oil left from a dead body) in food is fine, infant formulae which makes babies' heads disproportionally big, using rat meat instead of chicken/pork/beef in skewers (and so many more examples), I really don't trust their skincare products!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-China in any way, but I just wasn't expecting MADE IN CHINA masks in my Masks Box!
I guess I just spent US$23 buying a handmade box, because the masks inside aren't even worth US$2! I will not be purchasing from Oh Sheet Mask again.
In case you guys want to know if something is MADE IN CHINA or not, but you cannot read what's written, look for this logo. All items with this logo mean that it is Made in China, but not all Made in China items have this logo, but it will be a good indicator for you guys if you guys can't read Chinese:
If I were to create my own sheet masks subscription box, I would NOT put cheap (i.e. Made in China) masks inside. On a side note, we avoid putting Made in China foods in our ABCDEat Boxes, and even if we do (our Chinese New Year Box is bound to contain them), we do pick the better ones (preferably manufactured by a non-China company) with a higher quality control.
p.s. If anyone still wants to try this box, feel free to buy the entire box from me. Please leave me a comment below or email me for details.
That's enough of negativeness for one day! The more I linger on this topic, the more I feel I've been ripped off, so that's it for today!
Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

thank you for this review! I also thought that the price tag was too hefty for this subscription and didn't purchase it. I am now doubly glad I didn't get this due to all of the dups/made in China masks. I wonder if other people who purchased this know about this, because I have read some fawning reviews over this box - I doubt they know about the made in China thing
ReplyDeleteI think many people don't know why made in China products are a problem, but for a person living in Hong Kong and exposed to the dangers of China-made goods everyday, I really don't dare to use these masks. I actually asked my husband the same thing last night, and he said he wouldn't either, and his reasoning was exactly the same as mine! Like seriously, when I first heard about fake EGGS, I thought, REALLY? If they used their creativity elsewhere in a more useful way, they would be a really successful country!
DeleteJust stop Genie
DeleteThanks so much for this! I cancelled my sub as soon as I read this. I can't read Chinese so I would never have known these were made on China if you hadn't told us. I agree that I don't want to use them or give them away.
ReplyDeleteHi Genie, Phil from Oh Sheet Mask here.
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry you're disappointed by the box, although we feel dismissing a product because it's made in China is a tad unfair.
Everybody knows China hasn't got the best track record in producing all kinds of products but in the past few years as you probably know there have been huge changes in regulation and quality of cosmetics in China, which has now lead to China being the 3rd largest cosmetics market after the US & Japan. 3rd largest in the world. & of course upon import to Thailand and whatever other country, any products need to be checked and conform with legislation and quality control as well as be accompanied by ingredients lists etc.. to be sure they're safe.
People have left glowing reviews on the masks and box previously, mainly because they actually tried them. The masks are great quality and they have the desired effects regardless of whats on the packaging, so we feel it's a little odd that you judge a product not on what it does but by the country it is made or the brand name the box. To be honest, after diving into the beauty blogger world I feel many blogger reviews are not actually product reviews, it's more opening a box, taking photos and giving an opinion of the products by how they look or what brand it is which is a little confusing, but still.
Also, to say you will pick 'better ones' with 'higher quality control' in your China box is a bit strange.. what makes you think there's bad quality control on these masks or that they're not great, and why would your products be any different, after all they're made in China also right? I don't mean to cause offense but your review seems to be full of assumptions rather than testing and facts.
In any case, we're sorry you're not happy with the box, we really put a lot of effort into choosing the masks despite what you may think, we try them ourselves and love them, and it's a little disheartening to get negative feedback, but of course people look for different things in a product and not everybody is the same so it's to be expected.
Again, we are sorry you're not happy with the box, if you send us an email we'll gladly arrange a refund for you.
Thanks,
Phil.
hi phil, china has a bad reputation for a reason. It may be the 3rd most largest cosmetic retailer, but that is because their country has over a 1 billion people!! I think people are upset because you mentioned a variety of masks from many countries, not just China. Plus, adding masks that "look" like an established brand, such as innisfree, is also misleading. I personally would not want to use my face as a testing ground for Chinese made products that are not established worldwide. These are unknown brands and there was no mention in the card that they were all made in China. Instead of being defensive over the choices you made and slamming a blogger who informed people what was really in this box, understand that people do not wish to roll the dice with products made in a country that has a very bad reputation for quality control and it will take a long time for people to have trust.
DeleteAlso, slamming bloggers for how they review as well is not a mark of a mature and professional business. Bloggers should be your best friend, not one that you will tear down in order to defend your own choices
C biancardi responded perfectly! I for one won't be testing them on my face as I'm not comfortable using the product, one or two made in China products honestly wouldn't have made me dismiss this but the entire box made in China?? Beauty bloggers are an essential part of selling sub boxes IMO so criticizing the way they review your product may not be the best way to go.
DeleteHi Phil,
DeleteAfter seeing your reply, I would like to add my two cents in to support Genie.
I bought the October box and decided not to use any of the masks as well. I was put off by the fact that it is all Chinese masks and after consideration I decided to do some research into the products before making my decision.
I looked into the masks, by searching for them in both English and Chinese. I had trouble finding information on a few of the masks, and I had to dig through pages after pages on Taobao to even find listings for them. There were two masks that I could not find any information on, a few that I could find the brand but not that specific product. There was one extremely concerning product that had the design of the product from one company but has the logo and company name from another company. How can you state this product is authentic when its packaging is a complete ripoff of another Chinese brand? The last reason was what pulled the trigger for me to refuse to try any of the masks.
I had hoped that since your company is starting up, the products would get better with time. But with Genie's post, I can see the same brands from October's box is showing up again. It is really disheartening to see that when I have been trying to not say anything too bad publicly against your company. I think it is highly inappropriate for you to come here to discredit her opinion just because she is uncomfortable with using products from China. I understand you are trying to defend your business but it is very unnecessary to put in those comments in such a public place.
Hi,
DeleteFirstly, numbers have little to do with anything, if this was the case China would be number 1, and at least would have been number 3 a long time ago. The rise in Chinese cosmetics over the past year or so has undoubtedly been down to regulation and quality, and the fact that brands have prevailed against the negative views and old notions of Chinese quality to come out on top is testament to this.
We understand these are unknown brands, we've been upfront about that since the inception and it's been a point we've made throughout, if anything it's been our selling point. The whole idea is to try these masks and realize they're great masks while leaving your preconceptions behind. If we wanted to play it safe and just do established brands we'd just send you 10 MBD every month, but that's not what we're about. We're not about brands or countries, we're about the masks.
Probably not the best analogy, but I feel this is like someone being given a new food and tasting it, like 'Oh wow, delicious, I love it, what is it?' and upon being told it's octopus or something they spit it out like 'Ewwwww, I hate it, disgusting'.
Lastly, I feel that being a mature and professional business requires honesty and belief in your product. While bloggers surely contribute to sales of products I don't feel it's right to 'sell out' and pander to bloggers or anyone else strictly for good publicity. It seems we've had more bloggers email for free boxes to review than we've had orders sometimes and we've decided against this as we don't feel it's right. Maybe a bad business decision but from the outset we've had a personal investment in Oh Sheet Mask in all stages, from trying the masks to customer support and of course making the boxes. Our profits are miniscule, factoring in time and expense we create the boxes for less than a dollar an hour, in spare time aside from our full time jobs. We don't set out to deceive and we're certainly not going to get rich any time soon, but we put our hearts into every box regardless which should explain why we seem so 'defensive'.
In all honesty, the only complaint so far has been that the masks are made in China, and if that's the main issue then I still feel happy and proud of our service, because as I mentioned, that's not what we're about, we're about the masks.
okay, just digging that hole even further, phil, with the blogger stuff. You are very unprofessional and rude.
Deleteyou also need to take a step back - if you cannot handle customer criticism because you "put so much of your heart into a box", then you shouldn't be in business. It is a MASK box. You aren't creating world peace in a box here. The point is that your description of masks from various countries turned out to be masks from China. Your company messed up. People aren't going to purchase a box full of Chinese masks - which is why you didn't advertise it as such. You know it and everyone else knows it now. I am sorry to be rude to you, but your comments are not professional as a business owner.
DeleteHi Phil,
DeleteAs a blogger living in Hong Kong, and constantly exposed to the risks and dangers that China provides, I feel I have a right to state my doubts on China-made goods on my own blog. I gave my true non-biased opinion. I wasn't trying to affect anyone into buying or not buying their box - I was just saying that I personally didn't appreciate the box because there were 10 masks which were made from one country, when I was actually expecting a box with a variety of masks from different places.
I think you may have misunderstood some blogging terms - there is a difference between an "unboxing" post and a "review" post. Unboxing posts is just when you post photos or even a video of the thing you just received and talk about your first impressions of it, whereas a review post will actually review the products used. This post, as stated in the title, is just an unboxing of the box.
Originally, I was going to reply your argument with another argument, but I have better things to do than to sit here and argue with you. I suggest you actually deal with the problem, and not criticise bloggers for how we review, because if you do not listen to our problems, you're definitely going to lose a lot of customers. There are a lot of people talking about this issue at the moment, so I hope you guys will improve your quality of products as well as your customer service.
Thanks,
Genie
Phil, you have written a lot about quality control, but I believe that the question is how you ensure that the masks in your boxes have actually undergone that control. No matter where you are in the world, black market or knock-off products won't undergo the rigorous testing that their legitimate competition will. There are lots of ways that shady companies can avoid meeting health and safety regulations. China is known to be a country where these practices are commonplace, so rather than provide general assurances to your customers, why not break it down for them? "This mask was purchased directly from (this manufacturer). The manufacturer is registered as a business (here) and has (this certificate of health and safety compliance) which is valid until (this date)." As a potential customer I would want to know that you are dealing directly with reputable manufacturers whose practices you have observed first-hand, rather than wondering if you're buying random stock from a random wholesaler who gets the product from whatever source will provide it most cheaply.
DeleteJust want to pop in and say that yes, it would be nice to have masks, as advertised, that come from all parts of Asia. BUT, Phil is making some valid, heartfelt (if a little underinformed) arguments. I'm sure they'll take this feedback into consideration for their next box :)
DeletePhil hasn't answered the point about the Innisfree dupe. Why would you include what is effectively a fake of a well known brand? Passing off is illegal in most countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passing_off
DeleteThe other masks could be lovely, but the fact the box contains a dubious mask free riding on the reputation of a bigger brand suggests that they are not, and also suggests the quality control and curation has not been as rigorous as Phil suggests it has been.
It's not true at all that "the only complaint so far has been that the masks are made in China." Answer the point about the Innisfree fake.
oh and I trust Genie's reviews any day - she is providing a free service to people with her reviews and unboxings.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what you said about both Phil's replies and Genie's unboxings. The witch hunt for Genie is uncalled for. The same thing happened to me when I left a fairly neutral, slightly negative review for a brand coincidentally also based out of Thailand (yet owned by Westerners) called Reelle, and when I spoke out against Benton for distributing contaminated products that had proven contaminants in them. The owners of the companies, as well as the anonymous hoards came out in full to harass me, stalk me, and attempt to discredit and slander me all at once for giving truthful accounts of my experience.
DeleteIn the case of this company, I agree that their behavior is extremely unprofessional, and I have noticed this largely with western-run companies. You do not often seen this type of behavior when Korean stores are given negative (yet fair) reviews. It is unfortunate that people are coming here to leave negative comments on Genie's blog anonymously when she is simply warning people that these boxes are not sourced from credible and well-known companies. After having my skin ruined for nearly 6 months of this year (until I went on long term antibiotics) by Benton, I can fully understand her reservations to use unknown companies from China with little information about them, and worse yet--stolen packaging designs.
Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteYou say ' it is highly inappropriate for you to come here to discredit her opinion just because she is uncomfortable with using products from China.'
Wouldn't it be fair to say it's inappropriate to discredit a box of sheet masks based on the country their made? Without actually trying them?
They're*
Deleteseriously, dude - you run a business? have you GOOGLED about MADE IN CHINA products and their lack of quality control? Yeah, there is a good reason why people will dismiss it. You didn't even have the nerve to post where these masks came from on your info card cause you knew people would be upset about it.
DeleteHi Phil,
DeleteNot trying to be rude, but have you read my reply? I did get put off by the fact that it was all from China but I did my research. I could barely find any information regarding the masks on Taobao, and that is THE place to buy products in China. If I cannot find any information on the products on Taobao, there is no way I am going to risk putting that product on my face. Also, do you have a reasonable response to why YanChunTang's 24K gold mask has the exact packaging and product listing as Liceko's 24 K gold mask but has their own logo and business name listed? I have searched and I found the actual YanChunTang's version and it looks nothing like it. So when you include a mask that has this problem, how do you suggest a buyer to have confidence in the rest of your products?
Yes it is inappropriate to discredit the box based on where it's from purely based out of your dislike for the country. But when there are numerous product recalls and warnings regarding products made in China, and the fact that Chinese people would not even use their own products, I think Genie has a valid point in refusing to use these masks.
genie, if you wish to delete any of my posts here, please feel free to do so. I am just shocked at the unprofessionalism of this company
ReplyDeleteI think I will leave everyone's comments here so that other people can see how people other than me, think of this issue!
DeleteI don't see how what he said was rude. Just because he doesn't want to pander to bloggers requesting free boxes. And since when did a proper review become opening a box without trying something. Corpse oil and fake eggs have nothing to do with sheet masks.
ReplyDeletethis is an unboxing, which is different from a "review". Genie, along with many other people, have issues with products from China. Why on earth should she put something on HER FACE when it is clearly produced in a country that has had many violations and regulation issues in the past? And still does?
DeleteHe slammed beauty bloggers in general here as well as slamming this unboxing - that is rude. Instead of owning up to his mistakes, he blamed customers and the blogging community.
No, corpse oil and fake eggs have nothing to do with sheet masks....except in this case, we are discussing Made In China products. It is the bigger picture here.
oh and no one here asked for a free box. pffttt...that is just Phil deflecting the bigger problem here.
DeleteGirls will you relax :) No one here has been rude and you are jumping to conclusions that are quite disturbing and imaginary... Try to relax and read the things Phil said again?! I can not for the life of me see anything but a polite reply but of course the man is going to defend his product... And to be fair the ones I know that tried masks from Oh Sheet Mask have only been happy with them!
ReplyDeleteyes, Phil HAS been rude. What conclusions? The ones where he diss's bloggers and how they review? Or bringing up the free boxes when Genie paid for hers? The Made in China issue is not imaginary. People have concerns about it and it is quite telling how Phil and others wish to brush it off as "imaginary" and "disturbing".
DeleteI was waiting to see how the first couple months of this subscription box went before I signed up. I'm glad I read this, because I feel confident in avoiding it. For me it's not the fact that the masks are made in China, it's the questionableness of these masks. 3 of the 10 appear to be knockoffs, or at the least they are stealing the package design of other brands and hoping to pass themselves off as those. I don't believe a company that has such questionable standards about stealing packaging art work is going to do top of the line quality control. I also don't feel comfortable trusting Oh Sheet Mask when they see no issue sending these masks. Either they don't know enough about the products to properly curate a box, or they don't care about the iffyness. I for one am not going to test sketchy products on my face.
ReplyDeletewell said. I am also dismayed by the owner's lack of concern over his customers issues and instead, attacks their blog. That to me is questionable as well.
DeleteStop taking things so personally. She can review however she wants but she is creating hysteria without even trying the masks. No one said she didn't pay for her box. She can speak for herself.
ReplyDeletethere is no hysteria here. I am just reading excuses. Why the hell should she try a mask made in China if she has issues over their quality? I wouldn't try a mask made in China unless it came from a very reputable and established company. I wouldn't risk my face for some cheapo mask. But that is just me.
DeleteTalk about taking things personally - that is Phil. He is supposed to be running a business and instead of listening to customer issues, he dismisses them and then slags off on beauty bloggers. If he is so proud of his Chinese masks, why doesn't he advertise his beauty sub as Masks Made In China?
When Anon B. Grayface comes out you know a blogger has hit a nerve. ahahaha Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Genie.
ReplyDeletehahahaha.... I need to add a photo in mine but at least I am posting with a nic!!
DeleteExactly what I was just thinking!
DeleteOk then if someone here has been rude that is you C Biancardi as you have serious issues with reading what others write without putting things in between the lines that are not there! Phil has not said anything but the truth and the truth is that a lot of amateur bloggers wants free stuff - AM not talking about Genie here and neither was Phil :)
ReplyDeleteLOL.
DeleteWhat does Phil's deflection about free stuff have to do with his box and the quality of products, plus honesty? Nothing. It is a deflection. He wishes to slam beauty bloggers and change the subject, which is working for some people here. He didn't speak the truth about his subscription.
DeleteGenie,
ReplyDeleteThank you always for your honest opinions and reviews. I don't usually comment but always check your blog and videos. I learn so much from you and fellow bloggers! Thanks again!
Thank you for appreciating my honest opinion on this matter, and of course, your continuous support in my blog and youtube videos :)
DeleteSo glad I avoided this subscription...
ReplyDeleteThis thread is awesome. I don't think Phil has been rude per se - I actually kind of love it when I read a business owner's defense to criticism. Maybe it's schadenfreude :)
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do think that this situation at hand is super sketch. Thank you genie for alerting us. When a product is sent out from China in a package that is clearly meant to mimic a popular and established brand, why in the world would we think that it is legit? I mean, I love me some Big Lots for makeup - I've gotten great discount beauty products like the Revlon balm tints, OPI nail polish, etc... But you know what I don't buy? The crappy looking body wash that uses all of Philosophy's fonts and packaging, but is not really Philosophy. It has nothing to do with Big Lots/China, it has everything to do with the fact that I'm not an idiot.
Hi Genie!
ReplyDeleteBig fan here! I completely agree with your posts as well as your reviews/unboxings.
I also agree that knock off packaging items that look EXACTLY like Innisfree is a HUGE red flag for me.
Thank you for making me aware and i am so glad that I have avoided this subscription for 2 reasons. One being that I do not trust the masks and the false advertisements. Two, that they have TERRIBLE customer service! I mean..seriously..how do you treat a paying customer like that??
Thanks again for all of your un-biased reviews Genie!

As a Westerner living in Asia, I understand Phil's intentions, he thought he could jump on the Asian beauty bandwagon but sadly underestimated the needs and wants of those who actually use Asian beauty products.
ReplyDeleteAnd also, as a Westerner living in Asia, I would never, ever, ever put on my face anything that is made in China. Sorry, but no, thanks.
A country that can't follow simple quality control rules when it comes to processed meat products (recent chicken scare) and a country that floods our internet shops with dangerous fakes of popular brands (oh, just about any too-good-to-be true deal on rakuten) simply can't be trusted to provide quality skincare products. Which require a lot more than assuring that meat isn't green and bad smelling. That's just common sense.
But hey, I'm sure there are people somewhere out there willing to put a Chinese sheet mask on their face. Fine, to each its own.
The biggest problem, the way I see it, is that potential customers don't (or rather, didn't) know that they are buying highly overprices Chinese masks. Being upfront about the country of manufacture would solve this problem. Saying something along the lines of "hey, yes, these are made in China masks, but we believe they are good quality, however, we are unable to substantiate this claim with any actual hard data from our suppliers and manufacturers, so purchase at your own risk".
See? That was easy, problem solved.
The second issue is the price. Living in Asia, I know how much real (as in "not fake") branded masks cost. Even in Japan you can get them cheaply.
And just how cheaply can you get them from China?
A quick search of Chinese wholesalers offering "Korean face mask" that has the country of origin listed as "China" tells us that you can get them for anywhere from US$0.10 to 0.33 dollars, with the minimum order of 1000. So for the initial investment of less than 500 dollars, you can be in a sheet mask box subscription business. Looks like Genie was spot on in her estimate that those masks are worth less than 2 dollars.
And just for the sake of research, I contacted a couple of wholesalers and manufacturers, and yes, they did offer "variety packaging" for my convenience. Putting my own graphics on the packaging, even my own company's name was also possible.
See Phil, making and buying fakes in China is easier than you think. All from companies that were eager to fax me their health certificates and manufacture permits to close the sale.
We don't buy from wholesalers first of all. Of course you can buy them cheaply in bulk, that's how business works. You think Memebox are paying their inflated RRP prices listed in the box when they source their products?
DeleteAnyone is welcome to buy masks for 30c, except buying 1000 to get this price might not make sense.
You know whats worse, how about this?
Genies review and commenters slam made in china stating food issues, Genie says 'we avoid putting chinese food in our boxes'.. yet her November box is half full of them!! Blatant lies.
One is well known for contamination and was recalled a few years back after infant illness and death. I've made it easy for you, since nobody bothers to do their own research, they just rely on a bloggers uninformed opinion.. here : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ginbis+party+biscuits+melamine
You want to continually slam our masks based on assumptions, no problem, but please, direct it to others who are also doing the same thing (and worse.. contaminated food?!) or else accept you're a bunch of hypocrites.
What's under discussion right now is Oh Sheet Mask's November box. Suggesting that "[we]'re a bunch of hypocrites" for critiquing Oh Sheet Mask's November box due products in a food subscription box that, for example, I've never tried is not correct. Attacking the food in said box seems more like an ad hominem attack on a blogger well-positioned to comment on the status of Chinese-make masks rather than a useful contribution to a discussion about Oh Sheet Masks's November box. Suggesting that we readers and commenters are not bothering to do our research due to not googling a product related to a food box many of us have never tried and not Oh Sheet Masks's November box is rude and incorrect. Right now Oh Sheet Masks's November box is under discussion and I would recommend either commenting in a non-defensive and non-aggressive way or remaining silent.

ReplyDeleteI agree fanserviced. Phil is trying to deflect - that is what internet bullies do.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys are unbelievable. Internet bullies? If anything you guys are doing the bullying.
ReplyDeleteHow is not relevant? The blog post is criticizing masks alluding to FOOD issues related to Made in China products. The whole post is not relevant then right? The blog post is full of insulting assumptions like 'they didn't expect their customers to be able to read Chinese' and blatant lies about her own box. But pointing out this hypocrisy is deflecting and bullying right?
Are you kidding me?
It's easy to say 'well you're just deflecting from the issue at hand' rather than actually address anything, that's what people do when they have no valid response.
If you can't see it's wrong and hypocritical to slam a box, talking about food issues in China, lie about your own box which contains the very subject you're using to discredit another person then I have no idea. You've lost me. It beggars belief.
I'm totally with you on this on Phil. Half these babies just whine and "un-box & review" to make a living , and or have no life. This Genie person is one of them, with her garbage food sub box where she stole the idea from another company and slapped her "name" on it. Don't listen to them, they have no idea what there talking about.
DeleteThanks Lindsay. Funnily enough the name isn't even original, it's stolen from a book : http://www.amazon.co.uk/A-B-C-D-Eat/dp/0843198850
DeleteWhat's even funnier, is that Genie is probably using the masks as I write this because she's too busy trying out and blabbing about beauty products rather than taking care of her newborn child. Word of advice Genie in a bottle , DON'T BASH OTHER COMPANIES WITHOUT HAVING PROOF TO BACK YOUR STORIES AND BS UP! WITHOUT HAVING IT RETURNED BACK!!
DeleteWow!!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/A-B-C-D-Eat/dp/0843198850 would you look at that!! - Stole a name from a book and slapped it on her "food box" - Very trashy Genie!! I should blog about this and see how it feels! I will also contact my editor actually I might just contact a well known blogger from Hong Kong and let her know about this, everyone know about this. - Thanks for the info Phil!
DeleteHow do you describe your service, Phil? Have you lived up to providing unique masks in each box (no repeat) from different Asian countries? simple question.
DeletePlease try and answer that one. And now your buddies are coming out to bully people. Go home. Please. Learn how to run a real business and not try to make a quick buck and lie about it.
Buddies?? More accusations. No. Just call me a person who knows Genie and got tired of her lies, lies, lies, lies and more lies, along with how fake of a person she is, and especially her expired junk that she sells to people to make a profit so she can buy beauty junk to post on her ridiculous "blog". Did you know Genie also stole 1381.46 HKD from her child's savings so she could buy that zombie pack she reviewed?! Yea, her husband told her not to but she did it anyway. True story.
DeleteHave you even ordered a box from us?
DeleteThere have been no repeats, or are you talking about the festive one-off box which clearly states its a random mix from other boxes?
Yes, the majority thus far have been manufactured in China (many by Korean companies) because we travel to source masks and those are the masks we've found available and good, and we've recently sourced Korean masks, sending them in festive boxes.
We could easily have put in a bunch of MBD masks but that's not what we're about, why would we want to send stuff you can go pick up yourself? It's about showing people there's a great selection of masks and that brand or country has nothing to do with it.
And if it's fine to slam us for 'lying', slam Genie too. After all, you've not ordered from anyone so you're basing your opinion on what people are saying right?
Hypocrite.
Your post, which can be verified by reading other bloggers reviews, just told me you lied.
DeleteWhere?
Delete& Genie's post contains lies. You have no issue with this though right? Ridiculous.
I did order a bag of masks from you and cancelled my sub after seeing reviews as I didn't want all Chinese made products. I would have considered resubscribing if I saw changes in future boxes. But after this display of unprofessional and childish behavior I would never give you my money again. Slamming a blogger for giving her honest opinion of your product is frankly disgusting.
DeleteYou do release that there are other people who are reviewing your boxes, right? It is called the internet - go look. Instead of fixating on Genie, read the other reviews of your boxes and now that Genie has told them how to tell where the masks are from, guess what? They are reviewing very carefully and paying attention. I trust Genie - I know her. I don't know you and you've been caught in a web of lies. Plus, your first post here was slamming beauty bloggers, instead of being mature and listening to their concerns and not trying to pass off .33 cent sheet masks made in china as something wonderful
DeleteHey, look, deflecting.
DeleteBasically you have no issues with someone lying as long as you know them right? Says it all.
No, I know her. She isn't lying. You are.
Deleteoh and I wasn't deflecting. This blog is about your product and your service. You and your sock puppet are attacking Genie as a person, her baby, her family. If you were really a man, you would denounce those attacks on her.
DeleteHow is she not lying? Expired chinese foods, foods known to have been contaminated in the past.. this is quality and 'avoiding chinese products' right?
DeleteThe other commenter seems to know her a whole lot better than you, I guess she's lying also right?
Denounce what? I have no idea who the other commenter is and people can say what they want. Yes, I don't agree it's right to attack a family but maybe you should take this up with the commenter? Makes sense rather than putting it on me.
DeleteBecause I actually purchase her boxes and I know that you all are lying about it. You are the one egging on the sock puppet and responding to it (or maybe to yourself)
DeleteHow? Go look at the rest of the internet and Google contamination with the names of the products.I guess the whole internet is lying?
DeleteWhile you're at it, Google where each product is produced and whether they're Chinese companies.
They aren't made in China. Whereas your masks are.
Deletenext deflection.
What?
DeleteThe first product in the Nov box, Ginbis biscuits.
Ginbis Four Seas Foods, Shantou Co. Ltd. Business Address Address Inside of Zhongfu Group Company, Jinsheng Yi Road, Shengping Ind, Guangdong Shantou Guangdong Postcode Shantou

The brand "GINBIS" was born in 1930 and has a long history of 80 years in Japan.
Deleteyou really need to read the about page, Phil. Ginbis is a Japanese company. They have a plant in China, but the products Genie sent out were not from the China plant.
DeleteThe brand "GINBIS" was born in 1930 and has a long history of 80 years in Japan. Under the name of "GINBIS" brand and the firm spirit of "3I" - "International", "Independent" and "Instructive", we have been developing and manufacturing the best quality biscuits, cookies, crackers and snacks and supplying them to people all over the world. With the firm and steady business operations and positive & energetic attitudes in the development of new products, and sales & marketing for the past 80 years, GINBIS now has become one of the famous top brands in Japan in the field of confectionery industry.
I was going to say the same, but I see that c biancardi beat me to it.
DeleteIt's a Japanese company headquartered in Nishonbashi with a plant in China. It follows Japanese food and health safety standards rules. It frequently wins Monde Selection Awards for their products.
Why would a company with a plant in China import their Japanese factory products into China? Looking at the back through unboxing reviews you can see it's the Chinese version.
DeleteI'm sure the many thousands of hospitalized infants who unfortunately ate this and other contaminated products a few years back will be happy to hear about those awards.
Thank you for proving my point.
DeleteYet you are not afraid to sell made in China cosmetic products and are astonished when people call you out on it?
If a global company in China has quality control issues, can you really trust a fly-by-night, cut rate manufacturer of 33 cents masks that clearly copies other companies packaging designs?
Case closed.
Phil...
DeleteHow come you haven't addressed the fake innisfree dupes? It's clearly a fake and we can all see that.
Is it because you know how to respond to make yourself and your company look better? If so, you have A LOT of catching up to do. Maybe you're making all of these comments about genies company because you don't know how to answer and hope that people forget about that one important point?
Such a shame.. I was planning on subbing to your box.. but I just don't know if I can deal with a company that would stoop so low as to make all of these comments. I mean.. don't you have some improving to do on your company rather than trying to be smart on here?
I mean.. if I ever wrote a negative review regrading your box.. I'm afraid I'd have to deal with this drama and the backlash you give to your customers..
*don't know
DeleteWow , first of all this unboxing and not a review so I have no idea with this Genie person is bashing this company so harshly.. Where's her proof? If Genie is going to bash a company about there "ethics" I think Genie should start with her garbage food sub first. I ordered a box and I vomited because half the crap was expired!
ReplyDeleteLike Fanserviced mentioned. The topic of discussion here is the November box, not her snack box.
ReplyDeleteAs a business owner, it is very unprofessional for you to keep on redirecting the focus onto Genie simply due to her review. In my opinion, you have crossed the line by calling everyone who has a different opinion than you as "hypocrites". Everyone is allowed to have their opinions based on their perceptions and experience. Just because they voiced their opinion and it happens to differ from yours does not give you a right to call others as "hypocrites". By doing so, this reflects bad upon you and your business. You are simply pushing away potential buyers and pushing your business to fail .
Since you brought up half of the box is from China. Please let me know where did you find the fact? I have seen blog posts about the box and I can see they are clearly from Hong Kong and Japan. Even though Hong Kong is part of China, they have a much better regulation than Mainland China.
Yes you are redirecting, please do not call us bullies when we are trying to voice our opinion. I have asked you legitimate questions to which you simply skipped over and ignored. So yes, in my opinion you have been redirecting.
Please try to be a professional business owner by letting everyone have their opinion and prove them wrong with your future boxes instead.
"Like Fanserviced mentioned. The topic of discussion here is the November box, not her snack box." She's linked to her "crap box" sorry to say.
DeleteI will say this to you, Phil. Attacking a beauty blogger here and on reddit is not good for your business - people do take notice and it wouldn't matter if you provided the best masks in the whole world - they won't buy from you. Stay classy.
ReplyDeleteBut attacking a business is fine? What a joke.
DeleteYou need not to be in a business then. People attack and criticize business daily. There is even a service called Consumer Reports which reviews and gives honest opinions, good and bad. You should have read the comments here and taken the criticism as a way to better your service - that is what honest owners of businesses do.
DeleteGenie gave her honest opinion on a product she purchased so I fail to see how that is an attack. Should she have lied and said she was happy to get your product?
DeleteOf course not, but basing an opinion on false and insulting assumptions, especially when you're lying to your readers is hardly fair.
DeleteYour box contains products that are lying about their origin, because they are pretending to be brands that they are not! Why are they designed to look like other brands?
DeleteExactly anon!
DeleteWHY HASN'T HE ADDRESSED THE ISSUE OF THE FAKE INNISFREE MASK???
Phil,
ReplyDeleteI am not interested in food boxes, though I see you would much rather talk about that than your own mask box. I am genuinely interested in beauty products and in your mask box. However, as a person with a tad bit more experience when it comes to Asian beauty products, I have some valid concerns that you have, so far, failed to address.
I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Would you be willing to provide the contact details of your suppliers in China? I'd be happy to research the companies and ask them directly about discrepancies in packaging (copying a well known brand, etc) as well as product safety issues, asking for health and manufacture certificates and export permits (as they are selling from China to Thailand, where you are based). If all of the above are in order, I will be happy to test the masks in a lab setting to make sure that there are no additional issues. Those are the same procedures that products approved for sale in the EU must undergo. As you are originally from the UK, I am sure you are well aware of this fact.
Or maybe you already posses all of the above? In that case would you mind sharing with us? It would show that you truly care and believe in the product you are selling and prove your integrity as a business owner.
Once that issue is cleared up, we are good to go.
There is also the question of "false advertising" on your site, where you claim that the masks you are selling are making waves in Korea and beyond. This is clearly untrue, as anyone familiar with the Korean (and Japanese) beauty market can easily confirm. You are selling unknown brands made in a country with questionable safety practices.
If you were based in the UK (or anywhere in the EU), you could be reported and fined for such false marketing claims.
Sure, I'm still in the process of compiling the manufacturer information for someone else so I'll gladly post it here too.
DeleteThank you!
DeleteI'll be waiting.
If you can provide such information, I may be willing to give these masks a try. Please keep us updated.
DeleteThanks
Dear Phil,
ReplyDeleteIf you are in fact associated with Oh Sheet Mask, which I find pretty unbelievable as I have never seen such TERRIBLE unprofessionalism in my life, you have successfully lost a ton of customers by being an asshole. I am new to this blog and I don't care what Genie does, and regardless of whether I would buy a bunch of products from China or not (I probably wouldn't), I would certainly never buy from your company due to how incredibly rude you are. I was in fact considering purchasing from you prior to this, so this is not just words. You lost at least one potential customer. And since I found this from a Korean beauty product community, which is pretty large, and I know people have purchased from you previously, I have a feeling you're going to lose a lot more than just one.
Phil your a disgusting human being and what makes it worse is your wife is allowing you to speak to another woman like that, very manly of you and I have no doubt the people defending you in this thread is you with alias names and sadly your wife has joined in which makes the pair of you the scum of the earth, the more you carry on and attack Genie, your Oh Sheet Mask will be closed in a week, I got my box, it stunk, covered in black fingerprints and the masks looked and felt cheap, you can't defend that, Genie wrote a review and if you lost business because of that shows how credible and accurate Genie was in reviewing your services
ReplyDeleteLast Phil, back off, how dare you bring Genie's new born into this and her Husband, you are an adult for God sake, Genie is honest, trustworthy, intelligent, articulate and beautiful, if you continue down this path, not only will have me, from Australia but a very large contingent of people worldwide at you, do you really want that, be a man, grow up and move on!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to loudly advise people not to buy from you and will advise PayPal you are dodgy, if that fails I will get a petition started to send to your method of payment and have you and your wife investigated for fraud and receiving financial advantage by deception which is against the law!!
BACK OFF PHIL!!
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOps removed my comment by mistake, basically it said I was upset as I had linked Genie to Oh Sheethet Mask as I knew she loves sheet masks. I received the October box and I was not happy about it I used 3 masks from the box and after I got a reaction to 2 of them I binned the rest. Could not risk using any more.
DeleteI would also like to thank Genie as I now know how to tell made in China stock, My background is from a South Asian country so I 100% can see why she is wary of China goods.
Also I have brought ABCDEAT box's and the snacks are delicious. Genie also customises my box due to my diet restrictions.
Hello, I don't normally weigh in on these things and I can see that this has gotten out of hand so I hope these comments don't add to the drama.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have been looking at subscribing to Oh Sheet Mask but was waiting for some reviews to come out to see what the company offered. I had never read Genie's blog prior to this, but saw it mentioned in a facebook group so decided to read it.
I have read every comment up to 4pm today from Brad. I don't know if there are anymore past that, it took me a while to read those ;)
However, from an outsider's perspective, I have these points to make:
1. I found Genie's review fair and informative.
2. I don't like that all/majority of the masks seem to be ripping off others.
3. The fact they are made in China does not bother me specifically BUT
4. Phil doesn't seem to answer questions directly regarding origins and testing of the masks.
5. If oh sheet mask were to provide more information on where they buy their masks and if the companies they purchase from have certificates for testing, I would be more comfortable buying.
6. Phil's unfavourable responses, unfortunately, have put me off buying completely.
I think it would have been better for Oh sheet mask to stay silent on this blog or at least address the real question at heart, which is - are these masks certified and if so, why do they rip off known brands?
Thanks
Phil- You may already be aware but all of these comments are coming from one group of woman targeting you.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the Facebook group memebox addict and the pinned thread on the website makeuptalk > memebox called Korean box subscription. They all rally each other to attack you and form a witch hunt on your company. They keep mentioning you have lost tons of customers when the truth is, it is the same 5 woman making the comments on here, reddit, fb, makeuptalk etc
Someone is making physical threats at you Phil on FB. Please let me know if you need the screenshot. There are also comments on how to shut you down. This falls under the category defaming a company.
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for pointing this out, please send me the screenshots (also of the threats). Thanks.
DeletePhil, how about saying "hi guys, thank you for pointing out that some of the products we're selling might have authenticity issues. We'll work to resolve this problem. We'd like to apologize to our customers for sending them an Inn is free knock off mask made in China. We'll strive to improve our service and hope not to let our valuable customers down again".
DeleteSee?
That was easy enough, wasn't it?
You still have not addressed the issue of the fake innisfree mask in your box. Are you planning to?
Innisfree . stupid autocorrect.
DeleteI'm done replying, it gets me nowhere.
DeleteUsing a similar design isn't knock off. Counterfeit is using a trademarked name, icon, design etc.. none of which applies here. We'd be stupid to think that people wouldn't see its similar, but its a different brand. Unless you can't read or you're legally blind then it's pretty clear. The idea was that people could try masks without being influenced by brand name, something we've said from the start.
So I guess that promised list of your suppliers and manufacturers with all applicable contact info is out of the question now?
DeleteWhy am I not surprised.
What is pretty clear is that Chinese companies are famous for ripping off "similar" designs of well known brands, and usually in such cases providing products of inferior quality.
Unless you've been living under a rock in a galaxy far away, then it's pretty clear.
A word of advise - if you're going to provide a niche beauty product, then for the love of everything that is dear, research your market, know it forward and backwards and sideways. Because as with any niche product, your customers might end up being more knowledgeable than you. And that's not good for your business.
What a terrible response.
DeleteI am a lawyer. In the UK and many other jurisdictions, selling a product which is free riding on the design of another is an infringement of intellectual property.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passing_off
In the UK: "It is the Court's duty to decide similarity or identity of the marks, goods or services. The criteria are often: aural, visual and conceptual similarity (often applied in trade marks infringement cases)."
There is a clear visual and conceptual similarity between the Innisfree dupe and the actual product. Similarly, I've read one of the other masks actually uses the logo of the original brandowner??
The products are designed to create an association between Innisfree and the free riding company, and potentially to confuse consumers who aren't familiar with the brand.
"Another common passing off trick is the use of designs - perhaps a logo, product shape or style that are very similar to yours. If a rivals’ colours on its website, leaflets, or brochures are too similar to yours (or yours are too similar to another business!), this can also count as passing off."
http://www.duport.co.uk/advisor/legal/intellectual-property/passing-off.php
Passing off does not need to involve the unauthorised use of a trademark. Maybe you should read up on some of these legal aspects before supplying dupe products.
I'm glad you're here actually.
DeleteI've been speaking with a lawyer via email and discussing a few things, please tell me if he's wrong.
First, unsubstantiated claims that cause measurable harm in dollars and/or to a person is defamation yes?
Harrassment.. well that's obvious. My email inbox surely attests to that.
That's not such a biggy, the main thing is conspiring to extort and take down a company based on such things. The fact that a group of people have got together to figure out ways to close a company down, jumping from baseless claim to baseless claim which I have proof of is indeed illegal. Now deleted of course, someone figured out it wasn't best to have this in public, but not before evidence was gathered. I'll ignore physical threats, some jumped up bloke flexing his muscles in a women's beauty forum doesn't worry me too much, regardless of legality.
Part of this includes making claims for money through whatever payment method was used (using baseless claims). Add the following : Refusing a refund upon return of the product in it's original condition (wait.. surely the masks haven't been used right?!), and threatening to spread more defamation and get other people to make claims via Paypal or whatever to shut us down if they don't get the refund and keep the product, is in fact commercial blackmail and extortion.
"Second, I understand one of your concerns is that a group of consumers would try, or are trying, to pressure you by threatening consumer claims that you'd have to spend money defending even if they're baseless. You already know theft and extortion are crimes. If the crime didn't actually happen, a would-be thief or extortionist can still be convicted for the attempt if the facts are there. "
Please, tell me he's 'lying' or his 'information in inaccurate'.
As I say, I'm done replying but I did want to point out this information upon seeing a lawyer present.
After continual harassment, which is what it is, by a 'high school girl gang' group of people I've had enough. I'm not playing anymore, we'll see how they like it when the shoes on the other foot.
Phil, we've already established you're supplying a dupe product. Have you mentioned this fact to your lawyer?
DeleteThis must be the first case ever of a company selling fakes and then seeking legal help when dealing with disgruntled customers, who identified said fakes and alerted the buying public.
Phil, you're truly a champ.
Oh Phil,
DeleteThe Jumped up bloke in a beauty forum was me, thanks for pointing me out, I'm flattered, over the moon in fact and I purchased 1 box from you, was ripped off, no refund and they were vile, so yes I would hit you for scamming me and others.
A jumped up bloke in a womens forum, I'm so proud of that title thank-you, if you where trying to insult me i didn't work, especially who owns a shabby business of FAKE beayty masks in the hope to beautify women, quit while your NOT ahead Phil, your embarrasing yourself
Phil should be consulting a public relations advisor, not a lawyer.
DeleteI'd love to know who "Anonymous" above me is.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Anonymous knows what "defaming a company" mean. Here's an example directly from here: "I think Genie should start with her garbage food sub first. I ordered a box and I vomited because half the crap was expired!"
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify since it seems they are now panicking and deleting threads, someone in the FB group did make a comment about punching Phil if they saw him. That is going overboard.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
DeleteI know who you are and you are to gutless to reveal your name and yes I would punch him, he stole my money and supplied me with a box of crappy knock offs, he lied, I have every right to be angry, scammers need to be made accountable no matter who they are, if you want to take screen shots thats fine, that is only going to high light his dodgy busniess practices and the focus will go on him!!
Pointing out that an FDA regulated product is likely being imported into the US without having a Customs entry being made on it and is in violation of 19 CFR 134, Country of Origin Markings, isn't defamation.
ReplyDeleteIt's customs brokerage .

ReplyDeleteI think this is the best comment yet XD
DeleteI'm so sorry for the awful comments you got for this blog post. I got the first box and liked it in the beginning, but something did feel off. I got a sour taste in my mouth and tears in my eyes after reading some of the comments, no one should have to go through being accused for some of these things!
ReplyDeleteThank you for informing us Genie, I hope you were able to enjoy your concert tonight!
Wowza... Firstly, your UNBOXING first impressions were more than fair Genie. I would expect a box claiming to be "masks from around Asia" to have more than just chinese products. China is well known in the beauty industry for being dodgy and sometimes out right dangerous! I probably wouldn't sub anyway, given I'm a cream mask person but if I did fancy going bath to sheets it wouldn't be via this box. More likely to be a £1 mask from Tesco!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, Phil I understand you'd want to defend your product but you just have to take the lows with the highs. People will critisize and give feedback you might not nessesarily want to hear but you need to. This is how a business gets more business. You may not like it but sometimes you simply have to grit your teeth and say "Thank you for highlighting problems, we will look into this and hope to improve for our subscribers in the future". Even if you don't do it, be nice and you'll go far! Bad customer service is why I personally strive to give my customers the best they can get! You don't have to move heaven and earth but your customers should feel like you have. Happy customers = good reviews = more sales! Basics of business.
Lastly, slating bloggers, not good. Whether we get 1000000 views a day or just 10, word of mouth spreads fast, and with the internet getting bigger and bigger and communities being more accessable, word can quickly spread within minutes of a bad apple. Do yourself a favour buddy, sack the lackies you have here slating bloggers (they're basically free sales people for you) and listen to critsism and take it as a good thing.
oh genie this has gone way to far ,please know people all over read your blog you did nothing wrong in your UN BOXING,post, and really there seems to be a call for spies calling people out ,the girl unboxed a box and asked questions still not answered ,and its all gone rather pete tong ,yours from still sore and swollen faced ,time to move on and stop the arselicking who ever you are
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, AKA Phil or Wifey
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked I was a male so its just not all women you have a negative reason to not want to continue with your services, Phil, I made the decision not to continue with your subscription at my own discretion and without outside Influence, the masks you provide are revolting, cheap and knock offs, your behaving this way because you lied, decieved and stole peoples money based on untrue and misleading information on your website and you and your wife are attacking a blogger who expressed her own personally opinion and knowledge to others, you have destroyed your own character and that of your busniess and by the looks of things you have less then 100 customers and from your childish behaviour you may have even less customers will then in turn to ZERO. I also hope you come under investigation!!
Hi Genie, normally I am a silent reader on blogs but I felt I should thank you for making this post. I was curious about OSM's service when it was first discussed on reddit, but decided to hold off on purchasing until unboxings came out due to price tag and the unknown factor of the masks. I was curious as to why there was simplified text over the packaging and wondered if perhaps these were from Singapore or Malaysia. Now I see that these masks came from the mainland...
ReplyDeleteAs an ABC with family in HK, I completely understand the hesitation regarding use of Chinese cosmetics since many folks are still cautious and skeptical regarding food and cosmetics from the mainland, especially after hearing over the past several years in the news about counterfeit items, bizarre substitutions, or dangerous levels of certain ingredients in products and even in imports TO the mainland to be sold to its own citizens. It may be narrow-minded to shoot down a product without giving it a chance, but it's our right and our decision to not take our chances. We are all free to make the decision on our own.
Genie, you have done nothing wrong by stating the origin of the masks, and I'm really glad you made this post because it's revealed how unprofessional the OSM co-owner can be. It was unfortunate the masks in the first round were from mainland China, but OSM now has the chance to make changes for future boxes. However, Phil's petty and unprofessional responses have shot down all chances of me ever supporting or even recommend OSM. He probably should have just stopped after his initial response to the post. I don't think he was being rude then, but he has long crossed over into that territory now. When working in customer service, there are MANY times when patience is tested and you really want to voice out your disagreement/opinions, but as a representative of the business (especially when it's YOUR company), one has to practice restraint and THINK carefully before you speak; this is basic knowledge. It's one thing to accept criticism and defend your business with courtesy, and it's another to attack a blogger for stating her opinion and calling everyone who agrees with her hypocrites. Poor taste.
Sorry for the long comment, but I was just really surprised and angry at the (thankfully small) handful of hateful/disgusting comments. Just felt you should know many people really appreciate your post. Thanks for your unboxings and reviews.
Just stumbled on this unboxing, I was considering this particular sub but now I'll definitely avoid it. I lived in mainland China for a couple years and fakes are rampant even in most high end stores (albeit good fakes but fakes nonetheless). I've had my share of Chinese masks because I wasn't well versed or just naive. Best case scenario, my skin wouldn't be affected, but of course the product was nothing special, worst case scenario, I ended up with burns, pimples, hives etc... Any one of these masks could be picked up from a market for less than a dollar and all would be extremely risky to use. Some time ago even Watson's (probably the most trusty place to buy real face masks in all of China) had a case of one of their masks causing an allergic reaction so severe that it caused a death.
ReplyDeleteAny Chinese person who appreciates facial masks avoids Chinese made ones and always opts for Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese brands that are obtained from reputable dealers. Seems Ohsheetmask is trying to sell you $2.50 worth of garbage masks for 23 dollars. Really bad business.
